After receiving death threats for a controversial article, Nina finds herself in James’ bed which him sleeping a few rooms away on the couch. It wouldn’t be so awkward if her plan of seducing him and showing him that she isn’t just his best friend’s little sister blew up in her face.

James is struggling with his feelings for Nina, it isn’t just because she’s his best friend’s little sister. He doesn’t want to be another notch on her bedpost, he wants something real. Now being in close quarters with her he’s wondering if he can finally put a voice to all his feelings and ask her once in for all if she wants more than one night with him.

This was adorable and steamy at the same time. I don’t know how Talia Hibbert does it, but she did it. It also has some very important commentary on race, especially race related police brutality and politics. An insight on how it is to be a black woman and how much harder Nina has to work at her image as opposed to white women.

Nina is the perfect character, she’s a strong woman, a bit emo as she says and an ex-goth chick. I just adore her especially when I read the scene about her watching Buffy with James after a difficult ordeal. Be still my heart. Where is my James? Hm?

Anyway, speaking of James he’s protective, but not overly alpha, that perfect mix of strength and vulnerability that I believe all men should allow themselves to show. There is some strength in that vulnerability, but I digress. It was refreshing since he allowed her to take the lead, he didn’t want to impose his feeling on her, he respected her choices and her body and he was seriously fighting with his feelings for her thinking she didn’t want more.

The four star rating is because I wish there was more content. The ebook finished at 88% and I was hoping for maybe a fast forward to the future to see James and Nina happy together.

Otherwise I adored this. I preordered it back when I saw it was a brother’s best friend romance and I’m so glad I did. It really was a great pallet cleanser after my last read.
